MBX
BACKSCATTER VAN
The unival MBX is a mobile X-ray backscatter screening system engineered for rapid deployment and flexible inspection of vehicles, cargo, containers, and oversized objects in the field.
Designed for operations where mobility, fast response, and minimal infrastructure are essential, the MBX provides a highly effective screening capability for border security, customs enforcement, critical infrastructure protection, military operations, and law enforcement applications.

high-energy 300 kV X-ray backscatter source
At the core of the MBX is a high-energy 300 kV X-ray backscatter source - the highest energy level available in a mobile backscatter screening platform.
This unique capability enables superior steel penetration of up to 14 mm while maintaining exceptional sensitivity to low-density and organic materials such as narcotics, explosives, currency, tobacco, and other forms of contraband.
Unlike conventional 225 kV backscatter systems, the MBX delivers enhanced image quality, greater standoff flexibility, and improved detection performance across a broader range of operational scenarios.
open-architecture scanning concept
Utilizing advanced backscatter imaging technology, the MBX generates high-contrast images that clearly distinguish organic materials from surrounding structures and cargo.
Its open-architecture scanning concept eliminates the physical limitations associated with tunnel-based systems, allowing operators to inspect passenger vehicles, vans, trucks, pallets, containers, oversized cargo, and other large objects without unloading or opening compartments in most cases.
The system can scan objects as close as 1.1 metres from the vehicle, providing greater flexibility in confined environments.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE INSPECTION PLATFORM
The MBX combines high detection performance with operational flexibility. Supporting stationary, mobile, and hybrid scanning modes, it inspects up to 400 vehicles per hour while complying with international safety standards. Its low-dose design allows occupants to remain inside vehicle during inspection, improving throughput and efficiency.
FULLY AUTONOMOUS MOBILE PLATFORM
The MBX is built as a fully self-contained mobile inspection platform capable of operating 24/7 in demanding environments. Equipped with an integrated diesel power generator, redundant climate control systems, and ruggedized components, the system can operate independently of external infrastructure in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +55°C. Modern software architecture, AI-assisted image analysis capabilities, secure remote connectivity, and integration interfaces enable seamless deployment within existing command-and-control, border management, and security ecosystems.
The result is a highly mobile, high-throughput screening solution that combines the deployment flexibility of a vehicle-based platform with the imaging performance typically associated with larger fixed inspection systems, delivering exceptional detection capability wherever it is needed.
